SEN
Inclusion is at the heart of the ethos at Glenfield Infant School. We are highly committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils whatever their needs and abilities. The schools seek to raise achievement, remove barriers and increase physical and curricular access to all by providing a supportive and caring learning environment. We aim to enable every child to learn as effectively as possible, to enjoy his/her learning and to provide a foundation for life-long learning. All children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) are valued, respected and are equal members of the school community.
Our SENDCo, Mrs Spinney, work closely with a team of teachers and teaching assistants who effectively support children with SEND. This support can take place both in the classroom and through short term interventions both individually and in small groups.
We very much believe that school and parents working closely together give the best outcomes for all children and especially those with a SEND. The class teachers meet with parents and carers to create targets on Individual Education Plans (IEPs), to keep them informed of their child’s progress towards these targets and to share next steps in their learning. The SENDCo also meets with parents who have concerns about their child to discuss their progress, offer support and problem solve with parents.
Our school Family Liaison Officer and l ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) also support children and parents through difficult times when needed.
We work closely with outside agencies including the school nurse team, Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy as well as with the EJP Trust schools and the Hamwic SEN Support team.
