CURRICULUM INFORMATION

At Glenfield within our curriculum we are committed to making everyone feel brilliant and be brilliant - recognising that this can only be achieved by us working together and championing each unique individual. Our children are central to all that we do.  Through learning we endeavour to equip them with skills needed to be good people who make a positive contribution to society, who enjoy learning and continue to be learners for life.

Our language-rich curriculum will challenge children, making them think and work hard learning new knowledge and skills. It will promote the use of accurate and rich vocabulary in all subjects. At Glenfield we follow the National Curriculum and strive to enrich it wherever possible. Our children are taught in classes, small groups or individually, according to their needs.

We are always working to improve to achieve high standards for all. Learning will be progressively revisited so their knowledge sticks, and they can make links with what came before. Our children will be resilient to learn from mistakes and be confident enough to take risks.

The school monitors and evaluates its effectiveness in providing an appropriate curriculum for pupils of all backgrounds. Each area of the curriculum is planned to incorporate the principles of equality and promote positive attitudes to diversity. All subjects contribute to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all pupils. Adaptations to the curriculum or resources, and extra support is made available to pupils with disabilities to enable them to have inclusive access to the whole curriculum, school activities and learning experiences.

The content of the curriculum reflects and values diversity. It encourages staff and pupils to explore bias and to challenge prejudice and stereotypical ideals exhibited in language, behaviour, and attitudes which might limit children’s achievement. Extracurricular activities and special events cater for the interests and capabilities of all pupils and take account of parental concerns related to religion and culture. Some funding is made available where possible to enable disadvantaged children to participate in extracurricular activities.
