Computing 2020 – 2021

Intent

The computing curriculum at Glenfield aims to give children the opportunity to build skills that will support them in the future. They will be able to embrace and utilise technology efficiently and safely in order to develop their learning within the subject. We want pupils to be able to develop life skills that open them up to possibilities when they come to choosing for themselves what it is they would like to do or what their interests are. Children will become more autonomous with their use of technology through the implementation of the curriculum allowing them to access more devices and aspects of technology. Computing at Glenfield will be used as a taught lesson so that key concepts are focussed on but also in a cross-curricular way to enrich other subjects across the curriculum, this will introduce children to a wide range of ways in which technology can be used.

Implementation

At Glenfield we believe that children should be able to leave our school as ‘masters’ of the technology uses they have encountered so that they can carry on their school learning in Junior school with the right foundation in place. The computing curriculum has been planned out for individual year groups to ensure a structured progression is taught to children; supporting them appropriately for them to learn in a comfortable way. Our scheme has been closely referenced against the 2014 National Curriculum attainment targets in order to ensure complete coverage. Meaningful lessons will be taught to give emphasis on the key concepts of the curriculum, however, links between topics and lessons will be utilised when appropriate.

Impact

Glenfield’s computing curriculum will be closely monitored in relation to the 2014 National Curriculum by each class teacher. This will be done each school term to track the progress of children individually. In addition to this, the impact of the computing curriculum will be measured against the key concepts identified, these can be found in the progression of skills document below. Through this the children will become more confident in their abilities in Computing, they will become more independent and key life skills such as problem-solving, logical thinking and self-evaluation will be developed.
